Members of the Erie County Federation of Sportsmen’s Clubs showed up strong at last night’s Erie County public hearing in support of Local Law Intro 3-1 (2026). This common-sense measure would allow licensed 12–13-year-olds to hunt deer with a firearm or crossbow under the direct supervision of a licensed adult—just as permitted across the most every other county in New York State. Safe, supervised youth hunting builds responsibility, strengthens families, and helps preserve our outdoor heritage for the next generation. This will reinforce safe firearm handling and a strong foundation in conservation. We appreciate everyone who took the time to stand up and be heard. — Diane Steel, Corresponding Secretary
