Erie County Trappers Christmas Party

December 9, 2025

The Erie County Trappers honored Hayden Rogers with the 2025 SGT Daniel Shaw Memorial Youth Award at our Christmas Party. This is our 14th recipient that is presented to the young person who shows dedication and commitment to our club just as Danny did. Daniel Shaw graduated from West Seneca West and attended Erie Community College. Soon after enlisting in the Army, he was stationed in Iraq. Danny died a hero in November at the age of 23, serving his country and protecting those he loved. Our honoree, Hayden received The Herb Eble Award in 2023 after he attended the Pat Arnold’s Youth Trapping Camp in Rushford. He returned for 2 more years and became a Jr. Mentor. Hayden helps work our booth at the Fair and helps with our Demo Day Dream Catchers.

Congratulations to our 8 Herb Eble Award Winners, Levi, Daniel, Samuel Lily, Liam, Cole, Justin and Edgar. They all attended Pat Arnold’s Camp and completed their NYS Trapper Training. The Award began in 2001, marking 121 kids to date! Herb Eble started trapping at the age of 10 and continued into his 90’s.  In honor of his lifetime contributions to our sport and encouraging kids to follow in his footsteps, the award began. Applicants submit an essay expressing why they want to be a trapper. All winners attend our Christmas Party along with their families and did a great job reading their essays. Many essays praised the Camp for getting them started and mentioned their love of spending time outdoors with their family. They received a prize package of traps, fur handling supplies and 1-year memberships in ECTA, Cattaraugus County Trappers and New York State Trappers which includes the Trappers Post publication.
