Scholarship Application
As part of the Erie county Federation of Sportsmen’s Clubs efforts to enhance our environment and wildlife appreciation, we award up to two $500 college scholarships yearly.
To qualify for a scholarship, you must be a high school senior enrolled in an accredited college, or attending an accredited college with your major in any one of these areas: environmental conservation, law enforcement, or environmental pollution and must be a resident of Erie County. Scholarships are awarded based upon need and the area of study.
To be considered complete the application including a short essay telling of any projects you have participated in, your future goals, and proof of enrollment in an accredited college (i.e., course enrollment, course schedule, report card, etc.) prior to December 15.
FREE Lifetime Hunt/Fish/Trap Licenses for Kids
Each year the Erie County Federation of Sportsmen’s Clubs awards lifetime hunting, fishing and trapping licenses to kids in Erie County. Winners are determined by draw during our December meeting.
During the year, we raise money by donations, raffle ticket sales and special events to subsidize this program created by Club Director Joe Jemiolo in 2013. Since that time, ECFSC has awarded over $36,000 in licenses to 75 kids.
Pat Arnold Youth Camp 2023
At the DEC Camp at Rushford there were 19 campers and 1 Erie County Trapper Jr. Mentor along with 7 mentors. Camp activities included Trapper Certification, Laws & Regulations, Hands-on instruction on Land & Water Trapping, Baits & Lure Usage, Fur Handling, Trap Preparation and most importantly, Safety.
Jen Pettit from DEC gave a presentation on Ethics & Wildlife. This year the kids caught beavers, raccoons and muskrats. They all went home with a bucket of supplies along with knowledge and memories to last a lifetime.
National Hunting and Fishing Day 2023
A beautiful fall day was the perfect backdrop for this popular event. Turnout exceeded expectations and everyone enjoyed a day of presentations, education, participation and HOT DOGS!
Many groups and organizations volunteered to engage future sportsmen and women. Informational displays, active participation events and live demos highlighted the day’s activities.
The host club, Elma Conservation, provided the perfect venue with facilities for archery, crossbow, fishing, trap shooting, not to mention a modern clubhouse with a pondside dock and wheelchair accessible ramps.
Sgt. Daniel Shaw Memorial Award 2023
The Erie County Trappers awarded Jr. Trapper Kurtis Schenk with the SGT. Daniel Shaw Memorial Youth Award at our Christmas Party at Hamburg Rod & Gun. This honor is presented to the young trapper who shows dedication and commitment to the goals of ECTA, just as Sgt. Shaw did to the very end of his life.
Kurtis received the Herb Eble Award in 2022 after he attended Pat Arnold’s Youth Trapping Camp at Rushford. He returned to camp in 2023 as the only Jr. Mentor. With family support, he is on his way to becoming a life-long trapper. Congratulations!
